On the invitation of the College of Engineers of the Dominican Republic, President and CEO, Ashraf Habibullah and Executive Vice President, Syed Hasanain, conducted a one-day Seminar on October 30, 2004 in Santo Domingo, DR. The program focused on the Advanced Bridge Engineering Capabilities of SAP2000.

The venue of the Seminar was the Enriquillo Sánchez Theatre in the Dominican Republic Convention Center, a beautiful facility located on the shoreline overlooking the Caribbean Sea. The theater was packed with an electrified audience of over 1,000 Engineers. Amidst fun and entertainment, they were introduced to the complex, yet easy to use, new technology of SAP2000. The topics included the Object Based Bridge Model Generator, Including Internal Meshing and Automatic Line Constraints, Stage Construction Simulation, Modeling of Creep and Shrinkage Effects, Explicit Modeling of Post Tensioning Cables and Moving Load Analysis with Influence Lines and Influence Surfaces. It was an exciting and dynamic event.

The Seminar was organized by CSI’s Latin American Coordinators, Morrison Ingenieros, www.morrisoningenieros.com. The chief sponsors of the program were Block Khoury & Dalsan, users of CSI products for the Earthquake Engineering of high-rise residential structures using their patented concrete block system.

As part of the opening ceremonies, Mr. Pedro Pichardo, President of the Colegio de Ingenieros, Arquitectos y Agrimensores (CODIA) of the Dominican Republic presented Mr. Habibullah with a decree officially recognizing CSI for their “World-Wide Contributions to the Advancement of the Art and Science of Structural Engineering.”
