CSI recently donated software to CyArk, a nonprofit organization that is working to preserve cultural heritage sites by generating their 3D models, archiving them, and making them available via the Internet. Information obtained from CyArk’s optical laser technology is fed into CSI’s SAP2000 to study the structural integrity of the ancient monuments. Sites being studied include Ancient Thebes, Egypt; Angkor, Cambodia; Pompei, Italy; and Mesa Verde in the United States.

The National Information Centre of Earthquake Engineering (NICEE) at the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur recently launched a new periodical, Earthquake Engineering Practice. The publication, made possible by a major financial contribution from Computers & Structures, brings current research in earthquake engineering to engineers in developing countries, at no cost.
