You probably know already that CSI licenses its state-of-the-art structural and earthquake engineering software in more than 160 countries. But did you know that CSI also disseminates its cutting-edge technology and educational materials—free of charge—to numerous educational institutions and research organizations? Through partnerships you can read about in this newsletter, CSI is helping to make innovative technology available to engineers and scientists around the world. In the spirit of education, CSI offers its own selection of training and professional development opportunities directly to CSI software users. In September, CSI will host “Performance Based Design Using Nonlinear Analysis” in Los Angeles, Calif. Presented by Dr. Graham H. Powell, this seminar is an intense, one-day event that will give an overview of the performance based design process. You can also access training online via the CSI website, from the convenience of your office. In addition to our extensive library of always-available Watch & Learn tutorial videos, you can select from a series of live Webinars designed to meet your specific needs. CSI recently donated software to CyArk, a nonprofit organization that is working to preserve cultural heritage sites by generating their 3D models, archiving them, and making them available via the Internet. Information obtained from CyArk’s optical laser technology is fed into CSI’s SAP2000 to study the structural integrity of the ancient monuments. Sites being studied include Ancient Thebes, Egypt; Angkor, Cambodia; Pompei, Italy; and Mesa Verde in the United States. Visit www.cyark.org for models and details.
