An enhancement has been implemented to allow drawing a linear tendon throughout between two points. Two options are now available in the Drawing Properties window for the vertical profile when drawing a tendon: Linear Throughout and Program Determined (current default).

The concrete code “CSA A23.3-19” has been added for reinforced-concrete and post-tensioned slab design.

20.3.0_SAF_nzs_310-06

Reinforced-concrete and post-tensioned slab design have been updated for the NZS 3101-06 code to accommodate Amendments 1 to 3.

20.3.0_SAF_concrete_slab_aci_318-19

A new concrete slab design preference is available for the "ACI 318-19" code to optionally set the depth-dependent shear-strength reduction factor, Lambda_s, to 1.0 for mats and footings per ACI 318-19 13.2.6.2.

20.3.0_SAF_longitudinal_rebar

Concrete frame design now reports and displays the longitudinal rebar required for detailing due to torsion and shear, in addition to the flexural rebar previously reported for detailing purposes.

A built-in material library has been added for Canada with steel materials per the CSA G40.20-13/G40.21-13 standard, concrete materials per the CSA A23.3 standard, and rebar materials per the CSA G30.18:21 standard.

Integrated wall reactions are now available for graphical display and in a new database table.

The display of tendon control points has been enhanced to show all control points within each span, and to display the vertical offset distance of tendon control points from the bottom of the slab (or drop, if present).

Soil pressures are now available in the database tables on a joint-by-joint basis in addition to the enveloped values previously available on a slab-panel basis.

Application Programming Interface (API)

20.3.0_SAF_api_multiple_instances

The following enhancements have been made to the Application Programming Interface (API):

  • • The client can attach to any running instance of SAFE given its process ID.
  • • A new command "Set as active instance for API" has been added to the Tools menu.
  • • A new interface cPluginContract has been added to simplify plugin development.
  • • Speed has been improved for external .NET clients that call the API by chaining properties and methods in deeply nested loops.

The age of concrete at which loading is applied can now be specified for long-term cracked-section analysis. Previously, the age at loading was assumed to be 7 days.

Analysis and design will now be automatically rerun if cracked short-term or long-term deflection analysis is requested and a previous design to determine the amount of required rebar is not available.

DirectX graphics have been enhanced for quality and speed. Lightning-fast DirectX graphics with full 2D and 3D drafting and selection capability provide faster and clearer rendering.

Modeling

20.0.0_SAF_slab_auto_pattern_loading

Slab panels are a new entity that can be automatically generated using grids or support lines, or they can be user-drawn. They overlay the floor system and can be used to apply live load for load-pattern analysis, and they can also be used to report mid-panel displacements and soil-pressure summaries.

20.0.0_SAF_support_line

Support lines have been added for faster modeling of design strips and tendon layout. They can be drawn and edited on-screen as well as generated automatically along grid lines.

20.0.0_SAF_PT_tendons

The PT tendon vertical-profile display has been expanded to show all editable information related to the tendon profile, geometry, loads, losses, and load balancing in a single location.

A general mesher has been added which primarily favors quadrilateral elements but transitions to triangular elements as needed for sharp corners and irregular geometry. The rectangular mesher is still available as an option.

Multiple processors are now supported for analysis, design, and the recovery of results in tables. Load cases can be run in parallel based on the number of physical cores available.

Material definition now includes creep and shrinkage models, which can be used for long-term crack-deflection analysis. Models based on the following codes are available: ACI 209R-92, AS 3600-2009, CEB-FIP 90, CEB-FIP 2010, Eurocode 2-2004, GL 2000, NZS 3101-2006.

Long-term cracked deflection can now be defined at a specified material age or at a specified creep coefficient and shrinkage strain.

Control is now available over which load cases to run for analysis, which can save time when many nonlinear load cases are present.

Design

20.0.0_SAF_composite_beam_design

Composite-beam design is now available, in addition to the existing concrete-slab design, to support more floor types. Horizontal steel beams can be drawn and assigned for design. Beams with web openings, including castellated and cellular beams, can be designed. Design can be performed on the model as a whole or interactively on individual members. Design codes supported include: AISC 360-16, AISC 360-10, AISC 360-05, BS5950-1990, Chinese 2010, CSA S16-14, and Eurocode 4-2004.

Application Programming Interface (API)

The API allows external client applications to run SAFE or attach to existing instances of SAFE to perform operations like opening and saving models, creating and modifying models, running analysis and design, and extracting results. Typical applications include specialized templates, parameter studies, and design post-processing. Client applications can be written in several different programming languages, and can connect to SAFE using .NET or COM.
